Welcome to the Friends of Clapton Cinematograph Theatre (FCCT) Website Where is the Clapton Cinematograph Theatre?

The historic cinema sits at the top end of Clapton Pond, just before the Lea Bridge roundabout at 229 Lower Clapton Road, Hackney, London, E5 8EG. View a map of the area

This is a short walk away from Clapton overground Station and the following bus routes have stops located within 200 metres of the cinema: 38, 48, 55, 106, 253, 254, S2.

The late Colin O'Brien's fondness for the former Edwardian picture palace at 229 Lower Clapton Road Hackney led him to join the committee of the Friends of Clapton Cinematograph Theatre whose campaign to restore the historic cinema for the purposes of a cultural hub for the community in memory of Clapton-born playwright and screenwriter Harold Pinter received widespread support from local people and Hackney MP Diane Abbott.

When he was asked by FCCT to apply his considerable talent as a photographer to the production of a short film about the history of the cinema and its significance for the lives of local residents for over a century, he took up the challenge with energy and enthusiasm, despite a busy schedule of photographic commissions, exhibitions and production of his most recent book London Life.
